Environment and Sustainability

Here at The Tiny Toucan we strive to be as low waste and have a minimal environmental impact  as possible.

Tree Planting:

It’s now common knowledge that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising is to plant trees. For this reason, we have teamed up with the incredible Ecologi to ensure our small business is carbon positive. Each month we will plant enough trees to more than offset our estimated carbon usage here at The Tiny Toucan.

Paper and Card:

All art prints are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified fine art paper. This means that all the trees used in our paper have come from sustainably managed forests which do not have a negative environmental or social impact on our planet. Art prints are then packaged in acid free tissue paper, biodegradable 'cello' style bags and strong board backed envelopes to ensure they are kept clean, dry and protected during shipping.

All greetings cards are printed on recycled card stock and come with a brown recycled envelope and are shipped 'naked' with no plastic cello bags.

All clay used in our ceramics is from the UK. We reclaim all clay scraps so there is zero wasted material.

Royal Mail, our shipping provider has the lowest reported carbon emissions per parcel of any major UK delivery company, and are aiming to be net zero by 2040.

Plastic will only be used for packaging when it is being re-used. For example we keep and re-use all bubble wrap which is sent to us to package ceramic items for safer shipping. All re-used packaging will have a sticker on it to let you know the material has been re-used and to encourage re-using it again.

The only use of plastics are within our products are the vinyl stickers and the velvet matte lamination on bookmarks. We experimented with using plastic free, fully paper/card based sticker paper and bookmarks but they did not surpass our longevity testing. For this reason we offer vinyl stickers and laminated bookmarks, making them durable products which have a much longer life span rather than single use products.
